LESSON 4/TASK 1
possible that the first report of the crime may come when the victim seeks aid at the medical facility.
Close coordination with the medical facility enhances mutual understanding and facilitates the
establishment of such things as a private waiting area. It must always be remembered that medical
personnel are primarily trained and concerned for healing the sick and injured. They are not trained law
enforcement officers. Close coordination allows the medical personnel to gain an understanding of the
importance of the collection and preservation of evidence. When this understanding is accomplished
ahead of time, it greatly facilitates proper handling and cooperation at the time of an incident.
